Only successful applicants will be contacted by email and invited to one of our interview sessions.

How long is your hiring session?
The length of the interview session will depend on whether or not you have been invited to join a group session or private session. Complete interview details will be in the invitation.
We believe that it is mutually beneficial that we exchange as much information as possible. This way, both parties are able to make a much more informed decision regarding employment in Japan.
We're sure you'll agree that it is important for us to get to understand each other's needs and expectations.

Do I need a TESL or TEFL Certificate?
No, we urge all outgoing, dynamic and flexible people to apply. We do not believe that a specific amount of specialized or formal education is a guarantee of these attributes. GEOS provides in-depth pre-departure training, as well as ongoing training in Japan. However, we also believe that applicants who possess TESL/TEFL/RSA Certification obviously have a sincere interest in teaching English as a Second Language.

Can I teach worldwide?
Yes. GEOS has English Conversation schools worldwide but, to be eligible to teach in other countries for GEOS, you must first successfully complete two years of teaching at one of our schools in Japan.

May I still apply if I'm from a non-English speaking country?
Since a perfect command of English is required, only applicants who have completed their entire education in English (from elementary school through to university) will be considered.

Is an apartment provided?
Yes. GEOS provides each teacher with a single-occupancy, private and fully furnished apartment. You must pay the rent, which averages approximately 55,000 yen per month, and the utilities, which average 10,000 yen per month. GEOS will take care of any type of initial security or damage deposit (approximately 4-6 months' rent).

Are pets allowed in GEOS apartments?
Unfortunately, pet-friendly rental apartments are very scarce in Japan. We regret that no GEOS-provided apartments allow pets.

Are there career opportunities within Geos?
Definitely! There are many career positions with GEOS, both within Japan and overseas. These positions include, but are not limited to: Teacher Trainer, Public Relations Officer, Overseas School Director, Full-time Teacher, Homestay Coordinator, Publishing staff (we have our own publishing company), and more. These career positions will be explained during the interviews. See the Global Careers page for further information.

How many hours a week will I teach?
All Teachers are required to attend a Meeting at the start of a work shift to go over the plans for the day. Teachers are in the school for 29.5 hours/week. On average, teachers have 21-22 contact hours (time spent with students), leaving the remainder as prep and administration time.

Will I be teaching children too?
Japanese parents are very keen on having their children start English lessons from a young age.
Although it will depend on the location and the school's circumstances, you can expect about 30 percent of your students being aged between three and ten years old.

Can I teach kids only?
Yes! Contact GEOS for Children (click on Contacts section at the top right of this page) for more details.

Does GEOS have a dress code?
Due to the makeup to our clientele, GEOS staff are dressed according to Japanese business standards. For men, this includes: suit, tie, business shoes, neat hairstyle, and no facial hair. For women: pantsuit, skirt & jacket, business shoes, neat hairstyle, and nylons. We regret that no exceptions will be made, regardless of reason.

I don't speak any Japanese. Is that ok?
